Smart Community Summit 2015/Smart Community Japan 2015

From June 17th to 18th, NEDO held “Smart Community Summit 2015” jointly with Japan Smart Community Alliance (JSCA) in Tokyo Big Sight. Foremost experts from in and outside Japan gathered together and vibrant exchanges and presentations of information were established in diverse perspectives including from business and technologies.

In the same venue, “Smart Community Japan 2015(Exhibition)” was concurrently held and the booth of NEDO exhibited the update status of its smart community demonstration projects and storage battery development projects, which are ongoing in overseas.

Smart Community Summit 2015

On the first day of Smart Community Summit 2015, Mr. Yoichi Kimura, Director-General, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) made his remarks and the keynote speeches from Mr. Shusaku Nagae, Chairman of the Board, Panasonic Corporation, and Mr. Paul Yonamine, General Manager of IBM Japan followed it. In the afternoon of the day, the speeches and panel discussion titled "Smart Communities and the Widespread Dissemination of Renewable Energy" were held. It ended successfully while we received many comments appreciating the usefulness and timeliness of the session.

In the morning of the second day, a progress report on four smart community demonstration projects led by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI), which ended in fiscal 2014, was held. Each presenter engaging in the projects from METI and the four demonstration sites, Yokohama City, Toyota City, Kansai Science City, and Kitakyushu City, reported the achievements. In the first session of the afternoon, efforts for smart communities in overseas countries including Malaysia, Thai-land, and Vietnam, were presented. Then, the Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF), which is a worldwide industrial organization for promoting global dissemination of smart grid, led the second session. Presentations and a panel discussion from a global viewpoint were addressed on the latest trend of key technologies in the field and the GSGF award ceremony for excellent smart grid projects was held.

Smart Community Japan 2015

Contents: JSCA set up its booth in the exhibition site and introduced efforts of JSCA and member companies. In the presentation space, staff members of NEDO were actively taking roles in showing information by making presentations on overviews on each project. NEDO’s overseas smart community demonstration projects (U.S, Spain, France, U.K, Indonesia, and Malaysia) and the storage batteries technology development project were also showcased.
